Pinethwaite house and cottages nestle in a natural woodland in the heart of the country, yet only a mile from Windermere and Bowness villages. Our grounds provide a home for squirrels, roe deer, badgers and a host of small mammals and extensive birdlife (65 varieties recorded). It is surrounded by open fellside, and an old Lakeland farm little changed in a hundred years.

Find us on the Ordnance Survey map at Grid Ref. 420972. You will see that we are on a winding country lane and just an easy stroll through the meadows to the lakeshore at Bowness where you can choose to cruise the lake on a steamer or hire a yacht, row out to an island or take the little car ferry across the lake.

We provide maps and tourist information in our accommodation to help you explore further afield.

Bowness-on-Windermere has a wide choice of excellent restaurants, pubs, shops and a good three-screen cinema.

Windermere village has an excellent range of small shops and a huge Booths supermarket. Windermere golf course is at the end of our lane.

So, whatever the reason for your holiday, in our self-catering cottages you have the freedom to eat whatever, wherever and whenever you choose and to sleep in or get up with the lark.

Many of our visitors begin their holiday by exploring the footpaths, a tranquil tarn and beautiful fells on our doorstep, enjoying the superb views and stunning mountain sunsets. We are ideally placed for exploring the whole of the Lake District National Park. We are also within easy range of the Scottish Borders, Hadrian's Wall and the coast.
